Bangkok 2015 - Casa Lapin x26

This has got to be one of my favorite cafes in Bangkok! We visited Casa Lapin x26 on the 2nd night of our Bangkok trip for dinner. The cafe is located in a quiet area at Sukhumvit 26, around 10 mins walk from Phrong Phong BTS. Apparently Casa Lapin has quite a few branches in Bkk and the one we went is the biggest branch with a hostel, flower shop, co-working place and of course the cafe itself.

The cafe is really really spacious and it offers a good variety of seats from bar table, sofa table and dining area at the back. We were brought to the dining area behind by the friendly staff and we chose a window seats with sofa..hehe! I didn't do any research about the food so we just ordered the items that look appealing to us..lol! For the drinks, we ordered mocha, iced chocolate, lychee tea & thyme and orange & passion fizz. We ordered the green curry with roti for our appetizer and to be honest, we didn't have any expectation for this dish at all but it was so yummy!!! We certainly have higher expectation for our mains after the appetiser. We ordered a spicy carbonara, aglio olio and a beef burger to share and everything was so gooddddddd!!! I couldn't decide which pasta i like more because i lovee their aglio olio but they done the spicy carbonara so good, it was not jelat at all! o.o The beef burger was not bad too but i guess the pasta was too great that it outshone the burger, hahaha!!

The cafe was very quiet on that night with only few tables of guests and i really love the atmosphere there, definitely a great place to chill and relax after a long day of shopping hahaha! Saw some reviews of their hostel as well, would really like to stay at their hostel one day!

Malaysia - Sugar On Top [CLOSED]

-Revisit-

Sugar On Top (SOT), a new cafe in Taman Pelangi which is known by many for their famous chilli crab pasta and charcoal waffle. First visit was with my lil sis on a Sat late afternoon and boy we ordered up a storm as we haven't had our lunch yet..hahaha! We ordered their signature chilli crab pasta and mentaiko burger for our mains, and also wedges for our sides. The chilli crab pasta was quite yummy but the portion is quite small imo, and I wish it can be more spicy. Nonetheless, the pasta was done perfectly al-dente and I love their idea to have the egg yolk on top of the pasta. The mentaiko ebi burger came quite a while after we finished our pasta and wedges. The burger was not bad but it tends to get a bit jelak after awhile, we couldn't finish the rice though..haha! On a side note, I wish the staff could have told us that the mentaiko ebi burger comes with wedges when he was taking our order, we would definitely try other sides on the menu if we know :(

Anyway, the reason I went there was because of the charcoal waffle! I could hardly find any decent waffle in town so I was really expecting this as I heard quite a lot of good reviews. SOT was still at the "soft launch" stage when we visited, that explained why there's only 2 ice cream flavours to choose from. We chose the vanilla truffle to go with the waffle and I quite like the taste! It might sounds weird to have truffle in your ice cream but I thought it actually works..haha! The texture of the ice cream was on a more watery side which I don't really fancy but the taste make up for it. Waffle was quite decent with crispy exterior and soft texture inside.

Revisit SOT with my bestie to try the other items on the menu. We ordered the lap cheong carbonara pasta and waffles to share. For the pasta, the usual bacon is replaced by the chinese sausage which add a twist to the carbonara and provides a fusion of western + asian! I'm not a carbonara fan but I really enjoyed the lap cheong pasta a lot, love the sauce and surprisingly it didn't get jelak at all, we polished off the plate effortlessly. I actually love this more than the chilli crab pasta..hehe! Tried their waffle for the 2nd time with bubblegum ice cream because that's the only flavour available T.T I want to try their green tea or earl grey ice cream so badly..sigh maybe next time~

Overall a cozy cafe with good ambiance and decent food, definitely worth a try if you are in town! And they open till late everyday, a good hangout place with your friends at night hehe! Oh I forgot to mention that their tagline is quite cute: WeAreNotCrazyJustSOT!

Udders Ice Cream + Habitat Coffee

Meet up with my cafe-hopping buddy aka babi Anelie last night and we actually went for dessert first before our mains, lol! Habitat Coffee was full when we reached so Anelie suggested that we go for ice cream first, haha! Went to Udders Ice Cream which is just nearby coz I refused to go back to Salted Caramel after my 1st visit last week. Anyway, we ordered Tira-miss-u and Rum Rum Raisin with waffle to share. The alcohol level of these 2 flavors was no joke, hahaha!! Waffle is not too bad but I still prefer Creamier's waffle. Habitat Coffee called us while we were in the mid of enjoying our ice cream so we were like gobbled down everything in 5 mins and off we go, lol!

We went Habitat for their brunch menu but sadly it's not available on weekdays night! So we decided to order the pasta and truffle fries to share. Anelie ordered Cheesynara for herself and she ordered the Ocean Linguine for me without my consent?! You have to order your food at the counter there so I guess she was too lazy to come back and ask what I want when the food we planned to order was not available. I thought it's the black pepper sauce pasta which I saw on the menu earlier on and I was like NO NO WAYYY then turns out it's the aglio olio style which I LOVEEEE, hehehe! The food was not bad, truffle fries was quite decent as well, but spr mrkt's one is still the best!

Anyway, really nice catch up with this babi and we talked about so many stuffs last night! Sometimes i am still puzzle when and how did we become such good friend when she was the one who scared the hell out of me during our FYP, lol! I felt a bit touched (a bit only lah hahaha) when she told me that she gave up her favorite pizza just for meeting me, lol! Well, I think we have to come back again on a Saturday to try their brunch menu especially the tomato egg relish that everyone was raving about!

Mentaiko Pasta - $18
Spaghetti tossed in creamy mentaiko topped with more cod fish roe

I've always heard about the raved mentaiko pasta at five & dime and i finally got to try it with Anelie in our last meet up. We ordered a salmon rocket, braised pork belly and mentaiko pasta to share. I love both the salmon rocket and mentaiko pasta! Braised pork belly was mediocre and i was surprised with the amount of the cha soba given. Hmm actually i don't even know there will be cha soba underneath the pork belly, lol! Anelie was the one who ordered it so i just thought it was a braised pork belly itself, lol!! We were stuffed by noodlessss that day, hahaha! Anyway, the food was not bad and we got ourselves a one-for-one apple cider coz it's TGIF~~ haha!! I wanted to try the custard lava cake but we were both too full so i guess i would leave it for next time, hehe!

I love aglio olio

The only reason I learn how to cook aglio olio is just because i miss Peperoni aglio olio too much after i came here. Aglio olio is the pasta that we ALWAYS eat for free when i worked there last time, it was so good that i dun think i will ever get sick by eating that most of the time :p

Anyway, aglio olio is quite easy to cook actually. Found this recipe online which is pretty simple! All you need is the choice of your favorite pasta, garlic, olive oil, chilli flakes, parsley, salt and black pepper. You can always use fresh chilli and parsley but i seldom use these 2 ingredients in my cooking so i get the dried one instead and i thought it works pretty well too! This was my 3rd time cooking aglio olio here and I used penne this time coz im running out of spaghetti, haha! Personally think that aglio olio goes best with spaghetti :)

Added some sausage as i don't really like plain pasta :p

Love the recipe that i found online and the steps are super easy to follow. Saute the garlic and add in chilli flakes, add in butter cube after the garlic turns light golden brown. Don't ask me why, i'm just following exactly what the recipe tells me..haha! After that just add in the pasta and the toppings and stir until all the ingredients are coated evenly! Lastly, add in the parsley and season with salt and black pepper! SUPER EASY RIGHT!! :D

I think im cooking aglio olio almost every week here, omg! I guess i just love it too much :p
