Taiwan 2019 - Apple About Pie 烤蘋果派的方法

During my recent 3D2N short trip to Taiwan, I managed to meet Debbie in Taipei on my last day of the trip! We have been talking about this precious one day for so long as it's really rare for me to visit her in Taiwan..haha! She told me that she has to bring me to this home dessert place called 烤蘋果派的方法 (Steps to bake an apple pie), the name is super cute! I didn't know this place is so hard to book until she told me, lol!

So here are some information about this place:
-Reservation based, strictly no walk in
-Open for reservation on every 15th of the month, 9pm
-Slot available: 1-3pm and 3-3.30pm (2 groups of customers per slot)
-Reservation must be made on Facebook Page
-Dessert Choice: Homemade Apple Pie, Seasonal Dessert Platter (3 types of dessert) and Crepe Cake
-One dessert per person (you have to pre-order after your reservation is confirmed)
-No pets, no children under 12 yrs old
-Only accept reservation from 2-5 person

The owner will only release the date that she decided to open for reservation for that month few days before 15th of every month. Now this explain why this place is so hard to book! We were really lucky to be able to get the slot on the only day that I was at Taipei, haha! This place is located at the residential area in Da An District and the owner will open the gate for you after you ring the doorbell one time (yes, one time only).

The place is very very homey and the owner put a lot of efforts into those tiny details. It was literally entering into someone's house to have high-tea there, lol! Every corner is so pretty and photogenic I can't help but to keep pressing the shutter of my camera.

We had the homemade apple pie and the seasonal dessert platters which consist of 3 different types of dessert according to the current season. This means that the owner change the menu every now and then to make sure you will always have new things to try when you visit again. The homemade apple pie is really delicious and comforting! The crust is so crispy, not too flaky, just the right amount and the filling is so generous with big chunks of apple which were slightly spiced with cinnamon, 吃了會有幸福的感覺!As for the dessert platter, we were given peach & blueberry jelly, mango and passion fruit cake and caramel banana cake tart. Everything is so nice especially the caramel banana cake tart!

Malacca - Sin See Tai

The Daily Fix Cafe, known as the most popular cafe in Malacca has opened a new sister cafe - Sin See Tai 新时代 which means new generation or new era in Hokkien. It's a tiny cafe with only 16 seats available and it offers a smaller menu here. The place is decorated with plenty of greenery and wooden furnitures.

We ordered a baked egg and avocado bacon toast to share, food was pretty ok. The waffle and popsicle seems like a popular dish here but we didn't order it this time as we wanted to have dessert somewhere else, what a miss..lol! Anyway, the menu here is quite different from The Daily Fix Cafe, healthier choices are available here such as quinoa salad, chia seed pudding and home baked granola. Definitely a place to checkout if you are visiting Malacca.

Bearded Bella

Bearded Bella is a Melbourne inspired cafe opened by two coffee-lovers, one of them has won the Singapore National Barista Championship in 2016. It's located at Tanjong Pagar, tucked away at the end of Craig Road. Upon stepping into the cafe, you will love its quaint, minimalistic interior with wood elements and potted plants.

Bearded Bella is one of the cafe that produces their house blend which consist of 70% Ethiopian and 30% Honduras beans. I'm not a coffee person but I quite like their coffee, very fragrant and not very acidic, definitely worth a try even if you are not a coffee addict.

For the mains, we ordered smashed avo, spiced scrambled eggs and a chia pudding for sharing. Absolutely love the combo with quinoa, avocado(!!), pomegranate, sweet potato crisps and the grain toast. For the spiced scrambled eggs, i find it a bit oily but overall a good dish with yummy kale and mushrooms! Chia Pudding is definitely a good choice if you like something healthy. The greek yogurt was very light and refreshing, served with mango, kiwi and dragonfruit cubes and torched lychee.

Overall a good place for brunch with some unique brunch items and a good cuppa coffee although the price is slightly on the steep side.

Revisit: Sugar On Top (JB)

I am sure most of you have already heard of this famous matcha hotcake from Sugar On Top, it's so popular i think everyone goes crazy for it. I am not kidding, i have been waiting for so longgg to try it but every time i past by the cafe, there's always a long queue outside so i just gave up lol! Anyway, Joanne and me revisit Sugar On Top during one of the weekends and kiasu us went there around 12 plus to make sure we got a table inside..lol! They have changed the menu since we last came, i think they added some new items and i quite like their new menu design!

We ordered 2 mains and 2 desserts to share coz we are just greedy like that. For the 2 mains, we got The Black Kraken and tom yum pork chop. The squid ink pasta was nicely done but the taste was a bit bland. Now come to this 'interesting' part of the tom yum pork chop (wannabe?), we were puzzled when we saw the kimchi on the pork chop..nvm maybe it's just some decoration? But after we both tried the pork chop, we concluded that there's no tom yum taste at all?! The pork chop was not bad actually but i think it should be named as kimchi pork chop = =

Ok, the most enticing part was the dessert!! Besides the must order matcha hotcake, we ordered a salted egg yolk cronut to share as well~ We have vanilla ice cream for both the dessert as it's the only available flavor on that day..sigh! The salted egg yolk cronut was surprisingly good, but it can get quite jelat after a while, better to eat it hot and share with more ppl! As for the matcha hotcake, we were glad it didn't disappoint us! Just look at how the matcha lava oozed out so beautifully, it's not too sweet and goes well with the vanilla ice cream. I only wish the matcha taste can be stronger! Overall the food is not bad but service can be improved.

Vanilla Bean (JB)

Vanilla Bean is a relatively new cafe located at Senibong Cove which serves specialty coffee, artisanal cakes, brunch items and waffles with interesting flavors! The cafe is quite small but not too cramp, we visited on a sun afternoon for brunch and i quite like the ambiance there! I only realised I didn't take any picture of the interior after we left hahaha! I ordered the smoked salmon avocado and my fren ordered the baked eggs. Smoked salmon and avocado can never go wrong and i love how generous they are with the avocado spread! As for dessert, we ordered their earl grey lavender waffle to try and omg the earl grey lavender ice cream is so so so nice, very refreshing with the right amount of sweetness! And their waffle is on point too, crispy and fluffy, exactly how i like my waffle to be. There's a few waffles that i really feel like trying such as the salted egg yolk waffle, teh tarik waffle (what?) and the ondeh ondeh style waffle..such an interesting flavor! Oh and the artisanal cakes that I din get to try !! Ok, enough reason for revisit..hehe!

VCR Kuala Lumpur

Finally gotten the chance to visit this famous cafe during my 1st visit to KL this year! I have actually visited KL twice this year which was quite impromptu..haha! I believe many have heard of this cafe, VCR in kl, it's like one of the must visit cafes if you are in kl. VCR is located in a renovated house with its wall painted in black, easily be spotted! The cafe was almost full house and we were seated near the windows so yes to good lighting! My friend recommended me the potato waffle and this is actually my first time to try a savoury waffle! I immediately fell in love with the waffle when it was served, just take a look at the wobbly eggs..hehe! The waffle was topped with sauteed mushroom, poached eggs, rosemary and sambal inspired tomato chutney, a really tasty combination! My friend told me that the cakes are very nice too, especially 'The King', guess i will have to try it next time! :)

Taiwan 2015 Cafe - 路地 氷の怪物

Before I continue my taiwan travelogue, I thought maybe I can do a quick post of this super cute shaved ice that we had in Taichung! We heard about this place from a taiwan variety show - Kang Xi Lai Le and straightaway it's on our to go cafe list..lol! This place is a bit hard to access but I ensure you the journey and travel time will be worth it.

There are 5 options to choose from which are milk, matcha, black sesame, cocoa and plum and you get to choose 2 toppings to go with each shaved ice. They have such a wide selection of toppings that took us long enough to decide which to get. We ordered the popular choice which is matcha and black sesame, can't remember what are the exact toppings that we chose though..haha! You have to place your order and pay for it before you get the seat in the cafe. Oh, we ordered the sinful marshmallow toast as well because we happened to see it when we were paying at the counter..lol!

We couldn't hide our excitement when the staff served the shaved ice to us! OMG just look at how cute the shaved ice is?! Ok, you might think it's just shaved ice with two candy eyeballs on it but still IT'S CUTEEEE XDD Time to spam photos and we have to take the photos real quick because the shaved ice melt pretty fast..lol!

I like both matcha and black sesame flavor but if you can only choose one flavor, I will say go for the black sesame!! It's really really nice, the flavor is very rich but not too intense and the texture is so smooth that you can't stop asking for more. Even my friend who is not a fan of black sesame love it too! Oh ya and the marshmallow toast was really yummy as well, so glad that we decided to order it! Imagine the melted marshmallow on top of the crispy and fluffy toast which consist of banana slices in between..omggg im drooling now already..hahahaha!

This has got to be my favourite cafe for the whole trip, definitely worth a try if you are visiting Taichung!
