The Lokal

*please watch in HD :)

I have read too many good reviews about The Lokal  but I don't understand why I took so long to finally visit this cafe..haha! It's located at a corner shophouse along Neil Road. The Lokal  is the sister outlet of Sarnies and its decor and ambiance will give you the Aussie feel, remind me of the cafes that I visited during my Melbourne trip! We visited on a public holiday afternoon and a mini queue was already formed inside the cafe. I think we got our table after a 15-20 minutes wait which was not too bad actually! And we got the window seats which means i got good lighting to take pictures! :p

We were so famished by that time but we just couldn't decide which item to order because everything just look so promising..lol! We ordered a roasted beef ciabatta and a smoked salmon egg royale to share. For the drinks, sf had the hot chocolate because she said she just had coffee this morning before meeting me? LOL! I'm not really a coffee person so I always opt for mocha..hehe! Our food came pretty fast and omg i can totally understand what's the hype about this cafe just by trying both dishes that we ordered!  I personally adored the egg royale more! That delicious slab of smoked salmon was done to perfection and this was coming from a person (aka me) who don't really fancy salmon (except raw salmon)! The egg yolk flows out perfectly as well..just watch the video and you will know what I meant..haha! Being a bread lover, I absolutely enjoy the beef ciabatta which is the perfect combination of sliced sauteed beef and caramelized onions (insert heart eyes emoji)!

I still remember it was super hazy that day (PSI hit around 300+!!) but it was nonetheless a well spent afternoon with lots of catch up and updates with sf! Overall, The Lokal  definitely lives up to its hype and it certainly deserves a return visit anytime!

Curious Palette

The guys behind Stranger Reunion has opened a new cafe along Princep Street and I decided to bring my sis to try it! The cafe is quite hidden and might be easily missed as currently there's only one small blackboard lying on a chair outside of the cafe as their signboard..lol! We went on a Saturday afternoon and with no surprise the cafe was fully packed. We waited for around 15 mins to get seated.

Being a sweet potato fries lover, I can't resist myself to order the truffle sweet potato fries for our sides..hehe! Sweet potato fries already sounds amazing itself, but with truffle? Of course must order hahaha! However, we can't really taste the truffle in the fries. For our mains, we ordered a Curious Breakfast and a portobello mushroom with scrambled egg (can't rmb the exact name..lol) to share. I must say that the presentation of the food at Curious Palette was really pretty and instagram-worthy! For the mains, i thought it was pretty average, nothing to shout about.

Here's come the highlight of our meal - Berries Ricotta Hotcake!! I was telling my sis that we must order this for our dessert and i din expect the portion to be this big?? I almost got a shock when it was served...lol! The hotcake was decorated with strawberries, blueberries, sunflower seeds and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, it was indeed the prettiest hotcake i have ever seen..haha! The hotcake was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside though it was pretty thick. We couldn't finish the hotcake because we were too full from the other dishes #alwaysoverordering I think it would be good to share among 4-5 friends as the serving size was really bigg! Overall a pleasant brunch with my two sisters, would love to be back to try for their dinner menu since the place is quite near to where i stay..hehe!

D' Good Cafe & Sunday Folks

Wanted to visit D' Good Cafe for the longest time because of their whimsical and adorable interior but somehow the food menu doesn't look quite appealing to me, lol! Anyway, we decided to have our dinner there because we have already decided Sunday folks for our dessert, so D' Good Cafe seems like a good choice because it's just nearby :p D' Good Cafe is located at Holland Village and split into 3 levels which are The Lawn, The Attic and The Balcony. It's a self serve cafe so we have to go to the counter and place our order. Wanted to order a pizza and pasta to share but the service crew told us that the pizza will take more than half an hour to come...what! So we ordered a fresh prawn aglio olio and the chicken tikka masala that the service crew recommended. There's a top up option where you can choose to add on soup, coffee or dessert for just $3 and i thought it's pretty worth it. Frankly speaking, I have heard so much raving reviews about this aglio olio but I really don't think it's that awesome? Perhaps it's just that day but me and my friend both felt that the aglio olio is not flavorful enough, quite blend actually. On the other hand, the chicken tikka masala was a pleasant surprise! The chicken chunks were so tender and juicy and the masala sauce was really nice too! I thoroughly enjoyed the dish and the only bad thing is the rice that comes with it was a little bit too hard.

Headed to Sunday Folks for dessert and we ordered earl grey lavender and pistachio soft serve, ok basically it's me who decided hahahaha!! :p Shering just bought a new lens so we were quite excited about it and she taught me couple of things that I can do with my lumix gf cam..hehe! We both keep taking photo of the waffle with different angles and i think the people around us must think we were crazy lol! Had a really good talk with her about our life, cameras, some gossips and of course ranting about our job..lol! I learned so much about the camera and some functions that I never knew existed *facepalm* It's really nice to find someone who has the same interest and thinking..you know like 知音 hehe! Cheers to more cafe hopping, dinner outing and trippp! :D

The Lab

Chanced upon this experimental lab concept cafe along Jalan Pisang  when we were trying to look for a place for dinner. Wanted to bring them to CAD cafe but it was closed on that day, lol! I later found out that this halal cafe has replaced the 7th cylinder which i visited long time ago. For starter, we ordered the lab drumlets ($9.00) which comes in 3 level of spiciness (Yek eleh, mild & wild), can't remember which spicy level we chose but the drumlets were pretty good. As for the mains, we ordered a Gehaktball ($13.90), Russian Roulade ($15.90), Heisenberger ($12.90) and a classic beef burger ($11.90) to share. I love the Gehaktball the most! The meatballs were very juicy and the hand cut roasted potato that served as a side was really yummy too!

We celebrated these 2 aquarius boys' bday on that day but the little surprise was quite failed hahaha! We couldn't light up the candles because both of us don't know how to use a lighter LOL so in the end mz was the one who light up the candles for his own cake, as well as ec's cake XD Nonetheless we still have fun taking endless shameless selfie and stupid video, hope you guys like the little surprise~ :)
