Sri Lanka Day 1 - Kandy

Visited Dambulla Cave Temple which is also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla on our 1st day in Sri Lanka. Our first 3 days was spent in Kandy followed by Colombo. Sri Lanka has many cave temples but the Dambulla Cave Temple is probably the most visited temple by tourists as it is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. There is a long set of stairs leading to the temple but it's really worth the effort to climb up, the steps are quite steep but it's manageable so no worries! The temple is composed of five caves and each cave offers different sight and statues. The whole ceiling in the cave is covered by the paintings and it never failed to amaze me how they did the painting without spraining their neck..! :x The cave temple is really beautiful and unique in its way, worth a visit but make sure you wear/carry a pair of socks as you must take your shoes off before entering the temple. We almost burnt our feets...lol!

#20 Someday

“I think that when enough time has passed, when you’ve survived that which you didn’t imagine you could, there’s a dignity in that. Something you can own. A pride in knowing the pain made you stronger. The pain made you fight to succeed. Someday, when I’m living my dreams, I’m going to think of all the things that broke my heart and I’m going to be thankful for them.”

Atlas Coffee Embassy

Atlas Coffee Embassy is relatively new among the cafes in JB as it only opened in Taman Mount Austin last December. The place was specially design by a Japanese designer with the bright and clean concept and it's really cozy despite its simplicity. Bright cafe is love~ Their menu features a good selection of salad, brunch items, sandwiches, main course, snack and dessert. I decided to get their Atlas Specialty Breakfast where you can create your own breakfast plate by choosing from the 12 items on the list. The price will be varied from the number of items (3, 5 or 7) that you choose and it comes with white toast and salad! I thought it's a pretty good steal! I went with 5 items option (RM18.90) with pork ham, omelette, chicken sausage, fresh tomato and sauteed mushroom. Love the omelette and pork ham the most! Shen Sim wanted to order their atlas specialty roasted chicken which sounds really enticing but it was unavailable that day so she ordered the chicken avocado sandwich (RM24.90) which was really yummy too!! Being a fan of waffles, i couldn't resist to order their waffles after seeing so many pictures of it on instragram..haha! We ordered a chocolate banana waffles (RM18.90) to share. The waffles were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside which is just what i want my waffles to be..lol!

Brought along my new fisheye lens and decided to do a vlog...please pardon my shaky hand and my poor editing skill! :p Overall Atlas Coffee Embassy stands out as one of the better cafe in town and I just found out that the owner is the 2012 Malaysian Barista Champion and TimeOut KL Food Personality who owned the Top Brew Coffee Bar in Kuala Lumpur last time. You can read more about him here! I would definitely come back to this lovely space soon! :)

D' Good Cafe & Sunday Folks

Wanted to visit D' Good Cafe for the longest time because of their whimsical and adorable interior but somehow the food menu doesn't look quite appealing to me, lol! Anyway, we decided to have our dinner there because we have already decided Sunday folks for our dessert, so D' Good Cafe seems like a good choice because it's just nearby :p D' Good Cafe is located at Holland Village and split into 3 levels which are The Lawn, The Attic and The Balcony. It's a self serve cafe so we have to go to the counter and place our order. Wanted to order a pizza and pasta to share but the service crew told us that the pizza will take more than half an hour to come...what! So we ordered a fresh prawn aglio olio and the chicken tikka masala that the service crew recommended. There's a top up option where you can choose to add on soup, coffee or dessert for just $3 and i thought it's pretty worth it. Frankly speaking, I have heard so much raving reviews about this aglio olio but I really don't think it's that awesome? Perhaps it's just that day but me and my friend both felt that the aglio olio is not flavorful enough, quite blend actually. On the other hand, the chicken tikka masala was a pleasant surprise! The chicken chunks were so tender and juicy and the masala sauce was really nice too! I thoroughly enjoyed the dish and the only bad thing is the rice that comes with it was a little bit too hard.

Headed to Sunday Folks for dessert and we ordered earl grey lavender and pistachio soft serve, ok basically it's me who decided hahahaha!! :p Shering just bought a new lens so we were quite excited about it and she taught me couple of things that I can do with my lumix gf cam..hehe! We both keep taking photo of the waffle with different angles and i think the people around us must think we were crazy lol! Had a really good talk with her about our life, cameras, some gossips and of course ranting about our job..lol! I learned so much about the camera and some functions that I never knew existed *facepalm* It's really nice to find someone who has the same interest and thinking..you know like 知音 hehe! Cheers to more cafe hopping, dinner outing and trippp! :D

2D1N Melaka

Can't remember when was the last time I went to Melaka, probably 3-4 years ago. I've been craving for the nyonya dishes and the super famous satay celup for too long so we decided to go Melaka for a short getaway..hehe! We reached Melaka around evening time and the first stop we headed to was Restaurant Tong Sheng. Thanks to the courtesy of Shen Sim's friend, who lives in Melaka and help us make the reservation beforehand, we got seated immediately when we reached~ yeah! The restaurant was so crowded so it's better to make reservation beforehand! We ordered a cheese prawn meehun, fresh milk crab, fried fresh squid with garlic and a vege. The 2 must order items have got to be the cheese prawn meehun and fresh milk crab! You might think it's kind of weird by putting cheese and meehun together but trust me it doesn't taste weird at all!! The meehun was soaked in a delicious sauce where the cheese is melted into the gravy. The prawn was very fresh and well cooked too! The signature fresh milk crab did not disappoint too! I love how unique the taste is, but I can't really describe how does it taste hahaha wth! They use fresh milk instead of condensed milk to cook the crab and it has a slight sour taste which make the dish more appetizing. The dish comes with a plate of toasted bread for you to dip the delicious sauce, a very good alternative for fried mantou!

Went to Jonker walk after the satisfying dinner to digest the food and..yes we went for supper at Ban Li Xiang Satay Celup..hahaha what! The queue at Capitol was insane so we settled at this place instead. Shen Sim's friend who is a Malacan told us that they taste pretty much the same and Ban Li Xiang is much cheaper than Capitol. It was my first attempt on satay celup and i must say that i like the sweet and slightly spicy satay sauce a lot! Too bad we were too full from the dinner so we only took a few sticks to try.

Day 2 lunch was at Restaurant Aunty Lee which serves authentic nyonya food. We ordered 5 items to share which are Ayam Pong Teh, Beef Rendang, Cincalok Omelette, Bendih Ulam (okra topped with cincalok sambal mix) and Chap Chai to share. Everything was so amazing including the lady finger that I don't usually take! The chendol was really good too! Walked over to the Melaka Guan Yin Tong temple to offer prayer and also capture some visuals there. Went back to JB after visiting Mods Cafe which I will blog about it pretty soon..hehe!
