Sri Lanka Day 3 - Kandy

Day 3 was nothing much, we found ourselves happily trying the saree at one of their factory outlets in Kandy. They provide free saree trying and photography is allowed too. This was my first time wearing saree so i had a really hard time choosing the color and design, i think they have more than 100 designs to choose from..lol! The ladies there will help you to wear the saree so no worries! I was really amazed by how that one long piece of fabric was turned into a saree just by draping and folding here and there. So tempted to buy the saree home but it's quite expensive so i just bought a few pants so that the lady who served me can earn some commission..i think i disappointed her opps :x As we all know, one of the famous thing in Sri Lanka will be their tea plantation, we visited one of the tea plantations in Sri Lanka and got to see how the tea leaves are produced. All the tea leaves are still handpicked and the guide told us that the workers have to collect 20kgs of tea leaves each everyday..omg! We then went to the factory to see how the tea leaves are processed and also we had a tea testing session where we had different types of tea ranging from the most expensive to the most common one. Bought some tea leaves for souvenir and this conclude our day 3 in Kandy, moving on to Colombo the next day~

Chef's Table

Finally a decent place that serve amazing dishes that i can find near my house! I am always lazy to travel when i am back in jb so i always choose to dine at somewhere nearby unless my friends are driving..hehe! It was my first time there and i feel like ordering everything on the menu..lol! We ordered quite a number of dishes and a bottle of red wine to share. For the starter, I strongly recommended the tuna tataki and oatmeal crusted oyster with sweet chilli 'AIR'. Yes, you didn't hear me wrong, sweet chilli air on the crusted oyster, so unique and it was really additive to eat. We also order the cappuccino of roasted mushroom that served in a cup and it was pretty good too! Truffle fries was quite mediocre as i felt that the truffle taste was not strong enough. Followed up by the main course, we ordered aglio olio, al fungi and tomatoes pizza, sausage pizza, lamb rack and a seafood platter to share. Everything is really good but their starters are more outstanding, in my opinion. The flavorful aglio olio, nicely done lamb rack (so much nicer than the L bistro :x) and thin crust pizza are my favorite~  A meal is somehow incomplete without the dessert...so we just had to order the dessert to try..lol! I personally thought that the matcha tiramisu and phillo apple was worth a try! One thing that i love about Chef's Table is their chef's artistic flair and presentation of the dishes, everything is so beautifully plated. We enjoyed our dinner throughout the night and we were so stuffed by the end! Thanks my uncle for the dinner treat on that day hehehe!!

The Laneway Market & LICK

I didn't know there's so manyyy food choices around Tanjong Katong area till I visited The Laneway Market with Joanne couple weeks ago. With so many cafes and restaurants around, you will never go hungry but you might have a hard time choosing what to eat..haha! We've been hearing about The Laneway Market lately and it seems that the food are quite promising so we decided to have our brunch there :D The Laneway Market is hidden away from the main road, located at the turn from Tanjong Katong Road to Boscombe Road, just beside Bee Chee Hiang store. There wasn't a lot of people when we arrived so i guess we were pretty lucky, heard that it's usually crowded during weekends. We ordered spam fries, pulled pork burger and their famous risotto to share~ As for drinks, we ordered the iced earl grey and ice sea salt chocolate!

The pulled pork burger comes with 12-hours braised pork in beer-infused BBQ sauce, purple cabbage slaw and truffle fries. The pulled pork was very tender and moist but i can't taste any beer flavor in it but overall it was quite yummy..hehe! The highlight of the meal has got to be the mushroom risotto! Love the plating and how cute is the fried mushroom standing like little trees on the risotto..haha! The risotto was done very well with al-dente yet soft texture and the rice has absorbed the stock well, a must order imo!! Spam fries was quite nice but I don't understand what's the green sprouts doing on the fries, hahaha adding color to the dish maybe xD

It was raining heavily outside after we had our brunch so we decided to have ice cream nearby hahahaha! First time trying this Little Ice Cream Kafe, LICK and boy it was such a pleasant surprise as we didn't expect it to be so nice! :p We had the hershey's chocolate, red velvet and honey lavender to share, i love the honey lavender the most!

Did a vlog too..hehe! Please watch in HD! :)

Sri Lanka Day 2 - Kandy

Kandy is the second largest city in Sri Lanka after Colombo but you can rarely see any tall buildings or architectures there as compared to Colombo. We were going through narrow mountain roads and alley everyday when we traveled from one place to another. The road was so narrow that it only allows one car to go at a time and the hotel/villa we stayed at Kandy were all hidden up the mountain or in the jungle so we have to go through all those super narrow mountain road almost everyday! o.o It was pretty scary because there's no barrier or gate along the side but i must say i was really impressed with our couch driver's driving skill!

We visited New Ranweli Spice Garden in the morning and were greeted by a Sri Lankan who can speak Mandarin after learning for one month..what! We were briefed by the guide on how spices and herbs like peppercorns, vanilla, cocoa, etc are grown in the natural environment and a small cup of cocoa was given to us during the introduction of their products. They also gave short massage services to some tourists using the massage oil that they made and you can actually buy all those items from its store but i heard that they are all overpriced items. We didn't buy anything though..haha! I thought the most interesting part was the curry cooking in traditional way before lunch.

Headed to Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic after lunch.  It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. The temple was beautifully maintained and it gives you a very calming and peaceful atmosphere. We visited quite a number of temples in this trip and I think this was pretty worth a visit though the crowd can be a little bit too overwhelming.
